Just a bit of gardening

My best friend and I are both garden lovers and for our 2 year anniversary, she gave me a garden set for my window sill. The set contained three tin pots, seedlings for Pansies, Alyssums and Lobelias, as well as these cutes pegs with mini chalkboards on them. It is so perfect for me at the moment because the house we are renting has absolutely nowhere for me to have my garden, except for inside, so I've had to use my windowsills to showcase my beauties and keep the rest of my plants at my mum's house until we find our next place (boy will I make sure it has a good veranda next time!).

I only got around to finally planting the seedlings this week and have been so amazed at their progress. I planted them on Saturday when the sun was still out and was so excited to record their progress, but I wasn't expecting anything after only 5 days.

These photos were taken on the first day. You can see that the Alyssum seedlings needed to be pressed gently on top of the soil, while the Pansy and Lobelia seedlings needed to be sowed about 5mm underneath the soil. Having to write on those little chalkboards are super hard!

This is the Alyssum seeds after only two days. I was expecting the Alyssum to grow faster than the others because they were planted on top of the soil but I never expected this much growth so quickly!

This is the pots today - five days in. My Alyssums are going well but still nothing for the other two! I will keep you updated with their progress. I have never grown anything from seedlings before and I'm really hoping the other two start growing up and out of the dirt soon.. I am one impatient garden mama!

While I'm doing an update for my garden, I wanted to show you my little beauty that featured in one of my earlier posts about my DIY super cute and easy succulent garlands. My succulents have been really loving the cold sun they have been getting in my window sill this winter. This one especially has bloomed in the last few weeks since I did this post.

I just love this photo and how Chewie sneaked into it at the last minute.

Happy Thursday Everyone!KL

Super cute (and easy!) DIY mini succulent garlands

I have been dying to try out my own DIY project on something I have seen a lot over the past couple of months on some of my favourite websites like Etsy and Pinterest: garlands.

My mum gave me some succulent cuttings from her garden on the weekend and I decided to try it out and make 'mini garlands' for my little succulent collection from things I already had lying around the house. They are so simple and easy to make, and I think they look fab!

Here's what I used:
- left over fabric I had lying around the house (because I was only making mini garlands, I didn't end up needing much at all!)
- wooden skewers
- a bit of thread
- glue

Here's what I did:
- dependent on the height of my succulents, I cut the wooden skewers down to my preferrable size. I have placed them just on the inside of the pot in the dirt to keep them stable and so I can remove them when I water these bad boys.
- next I cut a piece of thread approximate to how long I thought I would need, with a little extra for tying it around the skewers.
- by now, I had two wooden skewers placed in the dirt with thread tied between the two. Now for the fun part! I went through my favourite fabric scraps and cut out little triangles (making sure I had folded the fabric in half before cutting, for when I place the triangle on the thread).
- I used items I had at home and without buying anything else, so I used some glue to keep my triangles together. If I were to make these again, I would buy a needle to sew the triangles together onto the thread. Wah-lah! They are done.

These took me about 30 minutes to make all three. How easy is that? I didn't follow any particular instruction set, I just used what I had and how I knew they were made and went with it! I think they are the best kind of DIY's, when you see something you love and make it your own! What do you think of my creations?

Garlands are becoming more and more popular for Weddings, Birthday Parties, Baby Showers and even just to hang in your rooms. Here are a few of my favourites and where I got my inspiration from.

Shabby Chic by Berry Ala Mode on Etsy

The Bella Garland by LePetite Fest on Etsy

Lovely Summer Picnic by Mara May on Etsy

Bunting by Vintage Green Limited on Etsy

I'd love to make some of these full sized garlands too so I think a visit to the fabric store is required, yippee!

Happy Monday,

Friday Favourites

Today is a beautiful day and I thought I would share five of my favourite things from this week. Sort of a collection of things I own, wish I owned and things that make me happy and inspire me. Why not? Maybe they will inspire you too.
1. BC Co. Nail polish in 'Neon Pink'.
I picked this nail polish up quite a while ago from our local Westfield. It's nothing special, has no fancy label and I only spent $4.99. This being said, it is one of my favourite nail polishes. It spreads well, doesn't chip straight away and I think the colour is fab.I love experimenting with nail polish and here is this weeks nailfest.
2.  A bit of bling.
This is one of my favourite rings. It's from one of those jewellery stores you come across and don't seem to find again. It's unique, beautiful and has a vintage vibe to it. That's how I feel when I wear it.

3. My favourite tea set.
I love it. It was given to me as a gift from my best friend and has already featured in a few of my photos. I use it every chance I get. Isn't it beautiful? I recently found out its from Paddington Antique Centre in Paddington, Brisbane. I can't wait to visit them myself and see what treasures I can find.

4.  90's Unicorn Dress by Wildfox
This sweet gathered mini dress is fab. It is a soft, lightweight knit with a slightly sheer bottom and a relaxed fit. Available in light pink or white from Princess Polly for $130.00.
5. Succulent Wedding Favours

Succulents are so 'in'. I love them and my mum has been growing them in the backyard for years now. But it seems that all of sudden the world has caught on with how great they are. It's fab. My best friend has her own small business called Savvy Succulents and today sent off her first order of Succulent Wedding Favours. Check out her beauties in mini watering cans.

Succulents are a beautiful plant and are so easy to grow and maintain which is why I think people are finally starting to notice them. They are growing popularity particularly for weddings, which is one of the things my friends business offers. Visit her page to see for yourself!

Before I sign off I HAD to share this photo of my cat Sookie who thought it would be fun to chill in my lap and start chewing my camera strap while I was trying to take some photos. It was too cute to be annoyed at.

Happy Friday everyone,

KL
